My Story
I have been a financial advisor since 1985 and I became a Certified Financial Planner™ in 1994. Since then, I’ve helped clients with all their financial needs including life insurance. But to me, life insurance is far more personal than professional.
When I was 15 my mother died and when I was 17 my father was killed in an airplane crash. At the time of my father’s accident, he was so distraught by my mother’s death that he ignored his financial life. As a result he ran it into the ground. He was just about broke and we were just about homeless. And then the private plane he was in hit the ground.
As devastated as we were, we did have a tiny bit of luck. My father had reluctantly purchased a term life insurance policy the month before he died. He made one premium payment before his accident. As a result, my 3 siblings and I collected $100,000 from the insurance company.
This was back in 1974 and that money went a long way at the time. All four of us were able to complete college and pursue professional careers. If not for that life insurance, I have no idea what would have happened to my siblings and I. And I don’t really want to even think about it.
